ENCUENTRO CON ÁLVARO SIZA

La conferencia en realidad consistió en un encuentro con el arquitecto de una manera distendida en el que los asistentes hicieron varias preguntas a Siza y él respondía con sus reflexiones, he seleccionado algunas de ellas que me parecieron interesantes por los temas tratados.

1_El papel de la imaginación en la arquitectura:

Según propias palabras de Siza, “la imaginación no es una cosa abstracta, tiene origen en la observación,   en lo que hago estoy introduciendo eso que capto y cuando trabajo en un país distinto al mío siento la obligación de llevar lo que tengo aprendido de casa a la vez que imaginación es el ejercicio de tener más, de conocer otras culturas, geografías y experiencias y eso traerlo a casa”.

2_Su crítica a la arquitectura contemporánea: 

“La buena arquitectura no se tiene que distanciar de la razón última que es la de que el edificio funcione bien” por eso, hay edificios que abandonan el contexto y e gustan y otros que al revés y no. Porque para él, hay una fase en la que es necesario cumplir un programa y la siguiente es la de liberar de esa limitación al proyecto, “eso es el funcionalismo ideal, que un edificio pueda servir para casi todo”.

3_Estética como condicionante de su proceso creativo:

“La belleza es el fin último, la belleza no es una cosa superflua” y es por eso, que la arquitectura es un arte.

Otras preguntas fueron referidas a sus influencias y alguno de sus edificios, en cuanto a influencias, admitió con gran naturalidad que tenía muchísimas, que una de las más importantes sería le Corbusier, A. Alto y algunos italianos… pero que el problema no es fijarse en una referencia concreta sino tomarla con un espíritu crítico.

MEETING WITH ÁLVARO SIZA


The conference was actually in a meeting with the architect in a relaxed manner in which  the attendees asked several questions to Siza and he responded with his thoughts.We have selected some of  the most interesting for the issues.


1_The role of imagination in architecture:
According Siza's own words, "Imagination is not an abstract thing: and has its origins in the observation.... In what I´m doing,   I'm entering what I catch . when I work in a different country from mine I feel the obligation to keep what I have learned from home while imagination is the exercise for getting  more, to know other cultures, geography and experience and bring it home". 


2_The critique of contemporary architecture:
"Good architecture does not have to distance itself  from the ultimate reason which is a good functionality. There are buildings that leave the context and still love, while others do not or vice versa" . And yet for Siza,  "there is a phase in which a program must be meet ,and the following phase is the release of such restriction of the project, "it is the ideal functionality that a building can be used  for almost everything".


3-Esthetic as a condition of Siza´s Creative process:
"Beauty is the end, beauty is not something superfluous" and that is why the architecture is an art.
Other questions were refereed to his influences and some of his buildings and in term of influences he very naturally admitted that had many...that one of the most important is LC, A. Aalto and some italian.....but the problem is not fixed at a specific reference but take it with a critical spirit.
